MACON, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr., Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies, is pleased to announce that two small businesses in Middle Georgia were awarded $102,080 through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). The federal funds were made possible by the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act which the Congressman supported.

ALBANY, Ga. – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. announced six federal awards to primary health care facilities in Middle & Southwest Georgia, totaling $504,414. The funds are part of the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) Bridge Access Program and will be used to provide COVID-19 vaccines, testing, and treatments to individuals without health insurance.

ROBERTA, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) is pleased to announce that the Crawford County and Grady County received nearly $1.1 million through the Assistance to Firefighter Grants (AFG) program. The Crawford County Fire Department received $577,295.23 while the Grady County Fire Department received $505,418.18 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which administers the grant program.

Bishop, Jr. (D-GA-02), Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the Congressional Military Family Caucus, organized and led the 2023 Military Family Summit which was hosted at the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center, adjacent to Fort Moore. Congressman Bishop was joined by Caucus Co-Chair, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA-05) in hosting the day-long event.

Bishop, Jr., (GA-02) a senior member of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, announced that Mercer University has received $224,500 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) through its Emergency Rural Health Care Grant Program. This grant will provide the startup costs for Mercer University’s new primary care facility in Taylor County.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Bishop voted against the Fiscal Year 2024 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs (FY24 MilConVA) funding bill which threatened the readiness and safety of U.S. military installations and the well-being of veterans, but it was narrowly approved by the U.S. House on a party-line vote.

WASHINGTON – Last week, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) supported the passage of H.R.3935, the Securing Growth and Robust Leadership in American Aviation Act. This bill reauthorizes the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for five years. The bill was approved by an overwhelming, bipartisan vote of 351-69.
