CONGRESSMAN BISHOP STATEMENT ON U.S. SOLDIERS FROM FORT MOORE KILLED IN JORDAN

January 30, 2024

WASHINGTON – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), co-chair of the Congressional Military Family Caucus and senior member on the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, issued the following statement regarding the death of three U.S. Servicemembers from the 718th Engineer Company, 926th Engineer Battalion, 926th Engineer Brigade at Fort Moore who were killed during an attack on their base in Jordan.

“I was deeply saddened to learn yesterday that three U.S. Servicemembers – Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, 46, of Carrollton, Georgia, Specialist Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24, of Waycross, Georgia, and Specialist Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23, of Savannah, Georgia – were killed, while deployed, during an attack on their base in Jordan. Dozens more U.S. servicemembers were injured.

“The Bible says that there is no greater love than to lay down your life for your friends. These brave souls and patriots were part of Operation Inherent Resolve and on the front-line of the war on terrorism. They gave their lives for their country.

“On behalf of a grateful nation, including the tri-cities of Columbus, Phenix City, and Fort Moore, we extend our deepest condolences to their families and extend our prayers also for a speedy recovery to those injured in the attack. Their service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.”
