Appropriations

Congressman Bishop is a senior leader on the U.S. House of Representatives' Appropriations Committee. He serves as the Ranking Member, top Democrat, on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food & Drug Administration, and Related Agencies. He is also a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies as well as the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government.

As an appropriator, he helps craft the annual federal funding bill which sets the amounts for discretionary funding for federal departments, agencies, and programs.

Those seeking to make community project, programmatic, and/or language requests may do so according to the guidelines set by the committee majority each funding cycle.

  • Programmatic request: Specific funding levels for agencies and programs funded in the twelve appropriations bills.
  • Language request: Bill language or report language directing or encouraging specific actions by federal agencies.
  • Community Project Funding request: Funding for specific projects in the community that meet requirements established by federal law, House Rules, and the Committee to ensure only high quality projects are requested and funded.
