CONGRESSMAN BISHOP HONORS RETIRING CONGRESSWOMAN CATHY MCMORRIS RODGERS (WA), CO-CHAIR OF CONGRESSIONAL MILITARY FAMILY CAUCUS

February 9, 2024

WASHINGTON – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (D-GA-02) issued the following statement upon the announced retirement at the end of this Congress of Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA-05) his long-time colleague and bipartisan co-chair of the Congressional Military Family Caucus.

“I have had the pleasure of working with Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers as she faithfully served the constituents of Eastern Washington in Congress for nearly two decades. Her tireless dedication and passion for public service has been rooted in her deep love for her family. Sharing their experience helped reshape federal support for children with disabilities and will be a lasting legacy of her work in Congress.

“This was also true in our work together as co-chairs of the bipartisan Congressional Military Family Caucus. It was an honor to work with her to help improve the lives of America’s military families from our servicemembers and their spouses to their children and across the wide range of policies, programs, and military life experiences that affect their quality of life.

“Each year, we worked together to host a summit – bringing together Defense Department officials, servicemember and veteran support organizations, as well as our servicemembers and their families to discuss the state of affairs for our military families and identify ways in which we can best serve those who protect us as well as their families who share in the burden and sacrifice.

“The summit alternates locations between Fort Moore in my Southwest Georgia district and Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane, the heart of her district. This year’s summit in Eastern Washington will be bittersweet as we say farewell to one of Congress’s greatest champions for our military families.

“I appreciate her decades of public service and thank her for her partnership. She is a dear colleague and will be missed.”
