CONGRESSMAN BISHOP ANNOUNCES OVER $3 MILLION IN FEDERAL HEAD START FUNDS TO HELP MIDDLE GEORGIA FAMILIES

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families is awarding a $3,091,496 Head Start grant to the Middle Georgia Community Action Agency, Inc. The awards will contribute to programs for child development and the wellbeing of low-income families.

“I am pleased to announce this federal grant to the Middle Georgia Community Action Agency. This continuing partnership through federal support is helping families and young children get a strong start in life,” said Congressman Bishop. “Head Start is assisting low-income families’ meet their essential needs and empowering local community groups to provide the resources for healthy development that will positively shape the rest of their lives for hundreds of Georgia’s children – including those experiencing homelessness, those with disabilities, and those in foster care.”

With this support, we will continue our mission of providing comprehensive early learning, health, nutrition, and family support services through our Head Start program.”

The Middle Georgia Community Action Agency, Inc. serves Bleckley, Crawford, Dodge, Houston, Jones, Laurens, Montgomery, Peach, Pulaski, Telfair, Treutlen, Twiggs, Wheeler, Wilcox and Wilkinson Counties.

Head Start is a program administered through the Administration for Children and Families that has served over 38 million children. Services provided through the program include educational preparation and child wellness initiatives. Head Start partners with families to empower them in their role as essential facilitators of their child’s education.

Congressman Bishop, a senior leader within the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, has consistently supported robust funding for the Head Start program. The Macon-Bibb Economic Opportunity Council and Fort Valley State University have also received Head Start grant awards in the past two years, totaling more than $15 million.
