ALBANY, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) announced that Albany State University has been awarded a $100,000 Clean Energy Education Prize grant which will support partnerships between HBCUs and other universities, government agencies, and industry leaders to build new programs and provide professional opportunities to succeed in the clean energy industry.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families is awarding a $3,091,496 Head Start grant to the Middle Georgia Community Action Agency, Inc. The awards will contribute to programs for child development and the wellbeing of low-income families.

MACON, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), announced that the Macon-Bibb County Economic Opportunity Council (EOC), Inc. will receive $4,278,717 through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Head Start grant program. The grant will go towards the Macon-Bibb EOC’s Head Start program, which promotes education, school readiness, and health and social services for low-income families.

ALBANY, Ga. – Congressman Sanford Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), announced that Albany State University (ASU) will receive $40,000 through the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Clean Energy Education Prize Inspire Track. The program, which is spearheaded by the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, seeks to support the development or enhancement of clean energy-focused summer programs for K-12 and community college students.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) congratulated 15 college and university students from throughout Georgia’s Second Congressional District who were recently awarded prestigious federal scholarships for international studies. The students were awarded either the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship or the John S. McCain International Scholarship for Military Families by the office of the U.S. Department of State.

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) is pleased to announce that Fort Valley State University (FVSU) has been awarded $398,058 from the National Science Foundation (NSF). This award will be used to encourage and support underrepresented students to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) higher education degrees and careers.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) and Congressman Scott Franklin (FL-18) introduced H.R. 4162, the Land Grant Research Prioritization Act. This bipartisan bill would provide land grant universities with dedicated access to existing U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) grant funding to enhance artificial intelligence (AI), mechanization, and other research to develop solutions to the challenges facing America’s agricultural producers.

WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr., Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies – and all subcommittee Democrats – opposed the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Agriculture appropriations bill offered by the Majority. The bill passed on a party-line vote and now moves to the full House Appropriations Committee for consideration.

Benjamin Franklin said, “an investment in education always pays the best dividends.” America is most successful when it taps the full range of its potential. It is vital that the nation’s schools and universities have the resources needed to prepare students while remaining affordable and accessible.
