Bishop, Jr., (GA-02) is pleased to announce that, last month, Albany State University has received three National Science Foundation (NSF) awards totaling $3,763,838. The funds will bolster biomedical research as well as help engage and support more people to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics professions.

The Exploratory Award Program is administered by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The grant will support cancer and autoimmune disease-related research at Mercer University.

These awards are typically used to fund programs aiding school readiness for low-income families with children under the age of five.

Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) announced a $413,425 federal grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to the Jack Hadley Black History Museum located in Thomasville, GA. The grant was made possible through the Museum Grants for African American History and Culture program.

Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is awarding a $19,987,665 Head Start grant to the Enrichment Services Program, Inc. (ESP) in Columbus, Georgia. Head Start grants are used to promote school readiness for children from birth to five years old who come from low-income families.

Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), a senior member of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, supported bipartisan legislation that will fund many federal departments, agencies, and programs for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2024. The bill was approved by an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 286-134 and now heads to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
