Science, Technology, & Telecommunications
“America is at the forefront of innovation which strengthens our national defense and made us a world economic leader. Scientific, technological, and telecommunications advances have improved quality of life and connected Americans in ways that previous generations could have only dreamed.” – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr.
Congressman Bishop understands that supporting the people and research needed for scientific and technological advances are the foundation for improving telecommunications, healthcare, and industry expertise that will help Middle and Southwest Georgia.
As the Chair for the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, Congressman Bishop supports robust funding for programs promoting science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) and research in fields vital to agriculture and the industries that drive Georgia’s economy. Training the next generation of scientists is also crucial to remaining on the cutting edge for America’s national defense and security.
Congressman Bishop works to support the many higher education institutions that serve Middle and Southwest Georgia – including its historically black colleges and universities, Albany State University and Fort Valley State University. These programs tap the potential wide range of potential that Georgia has to offer as well as support efforts geared towards preparing students for jobs and careers that meet local needs – from expanding local health care and broadband infrastructure development to engaging more youth in the agriculture industry and innovating ways to make it more efficient for farmers.
