WASHINGTON, DC – It was announced today that Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) has been appointed to serve on the U.S. House Agriculture Committee in the 118th Congress. The Agriculture Committee will oversee the development of the upcoming Farm Bill, a reauthorization of federal programs related to agriculture, rural development, and nutrition programs.
The Congressman also serves as the top Democrat and Ranking Member on the U.S.

Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) supported the approval of H.Res. 1512, legislation that includes the Fiscal Year 2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA). The NDAA authorizes funding to bolster our national defense, our service members and their families; increase investments in advanced technology and maintain national security at home and abroad.

The bill authorizes $839 billion in funds that will improve pay for service members and their families as well as be used to build, maintain, and innovate the weapons and resources that will allow the United States to confront security challenges, at home and abroad.

A young Cairo woman is on her way to the U.S. Naval Academy. Alexis Gray earner an appointment to the prestigious military college and has already reported to Annapolis, Maryland to begin her Plebe Summer.

The 2021 graduate of Cairo High School was inducted into the Naval Academy Class of 2026 on Thursday, June 30, to begin her six weeks of basic midshipman training.

The bill was adopted by the House of Representatives by a vote of 222-210 and now heads to the U.S.
