The National Infantry Association has awarded Georgia’s Second District U.S. Representative Sanford Bishop the Military Order of Saint Maurice, a medal given to individuals who make a “conspicuous contribution in support of the Infantry” while representing the “highest standards of integrity, moral character, professional competence, and dedication to duty.”
The medal was presented to the Congressman by the Fort Benning chapter of the Association of the United States Army (10/7) during the AUSA’s national convention in Washington, D.C.
U.S. Representative Sanford Bishop Tuesday (6/17) sharply criticized a majority on the House Appropriations Committee for rejecting a proposal to address critical needs in military service and homeland defense with funds provided by a temporary delay in a portion of the tax cuts approved this year for America’s wealthiest citizens.
U.S. Representative Sanford Bishop has voted to add $77.9 billion more to this fiscal year's budget to fight the war in Iraq, provide humanitarian aid to the Iraqi people, strengthen homeland defense against terrorism, and help financially troubled U.S. airlines cover increased security costs.
The House and Senate Thursday (4/3) passed their own versions of the bill, entitled the "Emergency Wartime Supplemental Appropriations Act," and Congress was expected to reach final agreement the following week.
