Bishop, Jr. (GA-02),Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies, released the following statement after House passage of H.R. 987, the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act. H.R. 987, which was approved on a vote of 234 to 183. It includes a package of seven individual bills that protect and strengthen access to affordable, quality health coverage.

Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) secured an amendment to the House Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Fiscal Year 2020 Appropriation's bill this week that would prevent states from eliminating non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) for medical patients, including those diagnosed with cancer, HIV, mental health and substance abuse disorders, and end-stage renal disease requiring kidney dialysis three times a week.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02)Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related agencies spoke on the floor of the House of Representatives and led the second disaster bill, H.R. 2157 to passage in the House. It was passed by a vote of 257 to 150, and now goes to the Senate for consideration.

Bishop, Jr. (D-GA) and Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) introduced the Faster Treatments and Cures for Eye Diseases Act H.R. 2620, to fund translational research and advance treatments and cures for blindness and other eye conditions. The bill also lays the groundwork for a new financial instrument speeding treatments and cures across the spectrum of disease and disability.
