CHAIRMAN BISHOP SUPPORTS CONTINUING RESOLUTION
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), Chairman of the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies, released a statement following the passage of H.R. 3055, a Continuing Resolution that extends government funding through December 20. The bill passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 231 to 192.
“While we have made progress on appropriations bills, the Senate is still dragging their feet. We must continue an orderly appropriations process while avoiding a costly and wasteful government shutdown. This continuing resolution does just that while focusing on shared priorities such as full funding for the census and a 3.1% pay raise for service members.
“Budget certainty is even more important to American families leading up to the holidays. This legislation extends funding at the FY 2019 level for all federal agencies, including critical health programs, that would otherwise run out of funding this week.
“Americans should not have to pay the price when Congress cannot agree on funding, which is why I voted for this bill. While I support this continuing resolution and supported the last one, I urge the Senate to pass the House-passed appropriations bills forthwith and get them to the President to prevent another wasteful government shutdown at the end of the year.”
