WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) supported legislation to prevent the sale, manufacture, transfer, or possession of semi-automatic assault weapons. These weapons, along with high-capacity magazines, have been used far too many times in mass shootings that devastate families and communities and put our police at undue risk. Semi-automatic assault weapons were originally banned in 1994.
