ATLANTA (AP) — U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop has co-founded a caucus in Congress dedicated to poultry issues.

The Georgia Democrat said the caucus will educate other members of Congress about the concerns of the U.S. chicken industry, including food safety, trade, immigration issues and environmental concerns.

Poultry state House members announced on Jan. 26 that they are forming a new Congressional Chicken Caucus, which will take aim at informing their colleagues about the importance and concerns of the U.S. chicken industry. The new caucus will be co-chaired by Reps. Rick Crawford, (R., Ark.) and Sanford Bishop, (D., Ga.).

WASHINGTON, Jan. 26 - Congressmen Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) and Sanford Bishop (D-Ga.) announced that they have co-founded the bipartisan Congressional Chicken Caucus. The Chicken Caucus will educate members of Congress and their staffs on the concerns and benefits of the U.S. chicken industry.

This 14th edition of Georgia Trend’s 100 Most Influential Georgians includes some familiar names, some new to the list and a few that are retuning after an absence.

The process of developing the list is, for all practical purposes, a yearlong effort, but the editorial staff of the magazine begins deliberation in earnest in the summer months and comes up with the final slate of names in the late fall – subject, of course, to hirings, firings, retirements and the occasional fall from grace.

The commander of the 648th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade stood at attention during his unit’s departure ceremony at Fort Benning on Sunday and saluted, just moments before his National Guard unit deployed for Afghanistan.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal and James B. Butterworth, the state’s adjutant general, stood and returned the salute.
