MACON, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), announced that the Macon-Bibb County Economic Opportunity Council (EOC), Inc. will receive $4,278,717 through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Head Start grant program. The grant will go towards the Macon-Bibb EOC’s Head Start program, which promotes education, school readiness, and health and social services for low-income families.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) supported H.R. 2670, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24). This bill is the product of negotiations between the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate and is a compromise between the two versions of the bill that both chambers passed earlier this year. WASHINGTON – Yesterday, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02-D) joined Congressman Hal Rogers (KY-05-R) to reintroduce bipartisan legislation that would expedite approved benefits from the Black Lung Disability Trust Fund for coal miners with black lung disease. The John “J.L.” White Ensuring Timely Black Lung Benefits Act is named in memory of a former coal miner from Williamsburg, Kentucky who passed away before receiving the benefits for which he had been approved.

MACON, Ga. – Yesterday, the U.S. National Park Service, an agency within the U.S. Department of the Interior, released its Special Resource Study of the Ocmulgee River Corridor. This report was initiated in response to legislation that was authored by Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (D-GA-02), Congressman Austin Scott (R-GA-08) and then U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and David Perdue (R-GA) which was signed into law in 2019.

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), a senior member of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, supported the passage of H.R. 6363, a continuing resolution providing funding to keep the federal government open into early 2024. The bill also provides a one-year extension of the 2018 Farm Bill as Congress continues work on a full, five-year reauthorization bill which covers agriculture, nutrition, and rural development programs.
