WASHINGTON – U.S. Representatives Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) and Austin Scott (GA-08), alongside U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock, reintroduced the bipartisan Ocmulgee Mounds National Park and Preserve Establishment Act (H.R. 2345), which would establish the Ocmulgee Mounds and surrounding areas in Middle Georgia as Georgia's first National Park and Preserve.
WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Federal Lands held a legislative hearing where they reviewed the bipartisan H.R. 8182, the Ocmulgee Mounds Park and Preserve Establishment Act, which is co-led by U.S. Representatives Austin Scott (GA-08) and Sanford D. Bishop Jr. (GA-02).
This bipartisan legislation would establish Ocmulgee Mounds and surrounding areas in Middle Georgia as the state's first National Park and Preserve.
BYRON, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr., (GA-02) is pleased to announce a $250,000 grant to the City of Byron, GA, and a $50,000 grant to the City of Centerville, GA, from the National Park Service. These grants are intended for recreational facilities in the respective communities. The grants were made possible through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) State and Local Assistance Program.

MACON, Ga. – Yesterday, the U.S. National Park Service, an agency within the U.S. Department of the Interior, released its Special Resource Study of the Ocmulgee River Corridor. This report was initiated in response to legislation that was authored by Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (D-GA-02), Congressman Austin Scott (R-GA-08) and then U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and David Perdue (R-GA) which was signed into law in 2019.
