A half-million dollars will be used to enhance water-saving projects in the Lower Flint River Basin.
ALBANY, GA — Rep. Sanford Bishop, D-Albany, announced Thursday that an additional $500,000 in financial assistance has been approved for the Agricultural Water Enhancement Program in the Lower Flint River Basin.

Two $400,000 grants by the United State Department of Agriculture have been awarded to benefit socially and economically disadvantaged farmers in Southwest Georgia.
Krysta Harden, USDA Assistant Secretary for Congressional Relations, announced the grants and said "I can not tell you how great it is to see these dollars come to Southwest Georgia. The grants will provide farmers with training about natural resources and technological resources.

Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Richard Burr (R-N.C.) announced Wednesday that they would be co-chairing a new caucus focused on military families.
According to a press release, the group will aim to "improve programs and services for military families" and will address issues like healthcare, child care, education and "the effects of multiple deployments on the mental health and well-being of spouses, caregivers and children."

ALBANY, GA — In the early morning hours of the summer of 1997, Howard Fields’ tractor trailer slammed into another rig on Interstate 75 near Atlanta.
An investigation later revealed he had been asleep at the wheel for nearly five miles before plowing into the rear of the other truck.
That accident cost his company more than $500,000 and forced an early retirement, ending his 21-year commercial driving career.

ALBANY, GA – More money will be available to help South Georgia farmers conserve water.
More than $70,000 will be added to $2.3 million allocated last year for the Agricultural Water Enhancement Program in the Lower Flint River Basin.
Congressman Sanford Bishop and the Flint River Basin Partnership made the announcement in front of a crowd of program supporters ton Wednesday.
