MACON, Ga. –Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) announced a recent $1,008,333 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to Mercer University (located in Macon, GA) through the Healthy Start program. The Mercer University School of Medicine runs South Georgia Healthy Start (SGHS) which helps educate mothers and expecting families about maternal health, parenting, infant safety, and more.

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is awarding a $19,987,665 Head Start grant to the Enrichment Services Program, Inc. (ESP) in Columbus, Georgia. Head Start grants are used to promote school readiness for children from birth to five years old who come from low-income families.

($1,859,632) and First Choice Primary Care, Inc. ($1,525,301).

Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), announced that the Macon-Bibb County Economic Opportunity Council (EOC), Inc. will receive $4,278,717 through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Head Start grant program. The grant will go towards the Macon-Bibb EOC’s Head Start program, which promotes education, school readiness, and health and social services for low-income families.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) supported the approval of H.R. 1530, the Veterans Benefits Improvement Act, which increases the number of judges on the Court of Appeals for Veterans' Claims (CAVC) and provides incentives for law school students and recent law graduates to work for the VA. The bill received unanimous support by vote of 423-0.

ALBANY, Ga. – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. announced six federal awards to primary health care facilities in Middle & Southwest Georgia, totaling $504,414. The funds are part of the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) Bridge Access Program and will be used to provide COVID-19 vaccines, testing, and treatments to individuals without health insurance.

Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) is pleased to announce that the Crawford County and Grady County received nearly $1.1 million through the Assistance to Firefighter Grants (AFG) program. The Crawford County Fire Department received $577,295.23 while the Grady County Fire Department received $505,418.18 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which administers the grant program.
