"Bill Russell was a game changer, both on and off the court. He lifted up others as he lifted himself up, redefined the role of the basketball center, broke barriers as the first African American coach in the NBA, and used his platform of accomplishment and fame to support the Civil Rights Movement.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) supported legislation to prevent the sale, manufacture, transfer, or possession of semi-automatic assault weapons. These weapons, along with high-capacity magazines, have been used far too many times in mass shootings that devastate families and communities and put our police at undue risk. Semi-automatic assault weapons were originally banned in 1994.
