Congressman Sanford Bishop took time off the campaign trail Thursday to stop by Pelham City Hall to place the ceremonial first E911 call on the city's new radio system, which was purchased with federal funds Bishop helped obtain for Pelham.
According to Pelham city manager Christian Drake, the need to upgrade the city's public safety radio system has been an issue for approximately five years.

These weapons, along with high-capacity magazines, have been used far too many times in mass shootings that devastate families and communities and put our police at undue risk. This bipartisan bill would establish a presumption that specific diseases prevalent among federal firefighters and other federal first responders are considered work-related, rather than require these frontline defenders to affirmatively demonstrate that the hazardous nature of their jobs caused their illness.
