ROBERTA, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) is pleased to announce that the Crawford County and Grady County received nearly $1.1 million through the Assistance to Firefighter Grants (AFG) program. The Crawford County Fire Department received $577,295.23 while the Grady County Fire Department received $505,418.18 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which administers the grant program.

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Yesterday, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (D-GA-02), Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the Congressional Military Family Caucus, organized and led the 2023 Military Family Summit which was hosted at the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center, adjacent to Fort Moore. Congressman Bishop was joined by Caucus Co-Chair, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA-05) in hosting the day-long event.

MACON, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr., (GA-02) a senior member of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, announced that Mercer University has received $224,500 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) through its Emergency Rural Health Care Grant Program. This grant will provide the startup costs for Mercer University’s new primary care facility in Taylor County.

MONTEZUMA, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr., (GA-02) a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) of $105,942 to the city of Montezuma, Georgia.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Bishop voted against the Fiscal Year 2024 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs (FY24 MilConVA) funding bill which threatened the readiness and safety of U.S. military installations and the well-being of veterans, but it was narrowly approved by the U.S. House on a party-line vote.

WASHINGTON – Last week, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) supported the passage of H.R.3935, the Securing Growth and Robust Leadership in American Aviation Act. This bill reauthorizes the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for five years. The bill was approved by an overwhelming, bipartisan vote of 351-69.

WASHINGTON – This week, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) opposed the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) as well as the FY24 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies funding bill. These bills make massive cuts to federal programs that safeguard the country’s roads, railways, bridges, airports, and other critical infrastructure.

Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) voted against two bills, the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act and the proposed spending bill for Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) covering Financial Services and General Government funding. Both bills, in their present form, are ultimately harmful and counterproductive to America’s well-being and military readiness.
