The economy and unity were key themes during President Obama's State of the Union address Tuesday night.
The mood was somber, with the memory of the Tucson shootings fresh in lawmakers' minds.
Many of them crossed party lines to sit together.
Some Central Georgia's lawmakers released statements after the address to share their views on what the President had to say.
First District Congressman Jack Kingston's statement urged action on the problems facing the nation.

Veterans who are losing money on their disability benefits while earning a military pension would get relief under a bill making its way through Congress.
“Veterans who have been injured during their service to our country have rightfully earned their military retirement pay and VA disability benefits,” said U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop, D-Albany. “It is unjust that our current policies effectively tax these Americans, taking money right out of their pockets.”

SAVANNAH, GA - Senior Administrative Aide to former U.S. Senator Sam Nunn and Richland's first black mayor has died.
A funeral mass for Olan Faulk was held Wednesday in Savannah.
Faulk, born in Cairo, was a Korean War veteran. He served as former Senator Sam Nunn's Senior Administrative Aide. After retiring from this post, he went on to become Richland's first black mayor in 1998 and served two terms.
Congressman Sanford Bishop said Faulk was a great public servant and a trusted friend.
He was 80 years old.

ALBANY, GA -- Millions of Americans tuned to listen to President Barack Obama's State of the Union Address Tuesday night.
The president talked about deficit trimming.
“I am proposing that starting this year, we freeze annual domestic spending for the next five years. This would reduce the deficit by more than $400 billion over the next decade, and will bring discretionary spending to the lowest share of our economy since Dwight Eisenhower was president,” said President Obama.

Dozens of lawmakers are getting a second dose of high school as they venture across the aisle and ask colleagues to sit with them for President Obama’s State of the Union address next week.
In a petition circulated to members earlier this month, Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) called on his colleagues to sit with a lawmaker of the opposing party as a way to heal Congress’s increasingly divisive rhetoric, debates that in the public arena have at times erupted into hateful rhetoric and even violence.
