WASHINGTON -- During his recent series of town-hall meetings, Rep. Sanford Bishop, D-Albany, said he listened carefully as veterans and their family members told stories of wading through a confusing tangle of red tape only to wait years for disability claims to be processed.

“Many of the veterans were under the impression that their claims were being delayed deliberately and waited out till they die,” Bishop said. “They felt there was a tremendous amount of disrespect among staff at the VA.”

LEESBURG, GA — It’s been six years in the making, but city of Leesburg leaders officially opened the special sales tax-funded wastewater pollution control plant at 2555 Georgia Highway 32 Monday afternoon.

In a ceremony attended by Leesburg and Lee County officials and representatives of the contracting and engineering firms that designed and built the facility, Leesburg Mayor Jim Quinn lauded the completion of the treatment plant as the “first of five or six city projects falling into place.”

WASHINGTON – Rep. Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed legislation to repeal a burdensome provision of the Affordable Care Act by a vote of 314 to 112. H.R. 4, the Comprehensive 1099 Taxpayer Protection and Repayment of Exchange Subsidy Overpayments Act of 2011, would rescind the 1099 reporting requirement that forces small businesses to file a 1099 form with the IRS for payments of more than $600 that they make to any vendor during a tax year, beginning in 2012.

Council for Agriculture Research, Extension and Teaching presented the honor

U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop Jr. has been presented the Congressional Champions Award for his years of service supporting land-grant universities.

Bishop, who represents part of south Columbus and Fort Benning in the 2nd Congressional District, was awarded the Congressional Champions Award by the Council for Agriculture Research, Extension and Teaching.

If a spending bill isn’t approved by Friday to fund the U.S. government this budget year, some civil service workers may be furloughed but soldiers will continue their duties, U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop Jr. said Friday during a visit to Fort Benning.

U.S. Rep. Sanford D. Bishop and Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black last week discussed the future of Georgia’s agriculture sector during a meeting at the Georgia Department of Agriculture office in Atlanta, Ga.

At the meeting, both men highlighted what effect the looming budgetary pressures could have on Georgia agriculture and pledged to work together on behalf of Georgia’s farmers.

VALDOSTA, GA - A new center that serves children with disabilities and their families opened Thursday in Valdosta.

The home gives caregivers a break by temporarily caring for the children.

Congressman Sanford Bishop cut the ribbon on Megan's House on Williams Street.

This is the third Megan's house after ones in Albany and Waycross.

They're named after Megan Holloman who died at age 14 from a rare chromosome disorder.
