Mr. BISHOP of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor an
outstanding Man of God, Elder Ervin Peterson, who will celebrate his
20th Anniversary as the distinguished pastor of New Hope Full Gospel
Ministries, Inc. His anniversary celebration will take place Thursday,
August 3rd through August 5th, 2017 at New Hope Full Gospel Ministries,
Inc. in Albany, GA.
A native of Calhoun County, Elder Peterson was born to Mr. Willie J.
Mr. BISHOP of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor a terrific
educator, strong civic leader, dedicated man of God, and dear friend to
my wife, Vivian and me, Harvey Milner, Sr., who retired from his
position as Deputy Director of Public Services for the Columbus Public
Works Department. He was honored in a retirement ceremony on Friday,
September 22, 2017 at 3:00 p.m at the Columbus Government Center in
Mr. BISHOP of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, it is with a heavy heart and
solemn remembrance that I pay tribute to an outstanding civic leader
and public servant of Georgia, a pillar in the Colquitt County
community, and a friend of longstanding, Commissioner Luke P. Strong,
Jr. Commissioner Strong passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017. A
funeral service was held on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at
Mr. BISHOP of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, it is my honor and pleasure to
extend my personal congratulations and best wishes to an exceptional
community leader, an outstanding citizen, and a dear friend of
longstanding, Ms. Judith Tucker, on the occasion of her retirement.
A native of West Point, Georgia, Judith attended Spelman College
before transferring to Columbus College, where she received her
bachelor's degree in General Business.
Mr. BISHOP of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor a dedicated
man of God, community servant, Civil Rights Leader, family man and
friend of longstanding, Rev. Elijah Smith, Sr. Sadly, Rev. Smith passed
away on October 2, 2017. His funeral service will be held on Saturday,
October 7, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the St. Peter A.M.E. Church in Fort
Valley, Georgia.
Reverend Elijah Smith, Sr. was born on December 28, 1939, in Fort
Mr. BISHOP of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to extend my
sincerest congratulations and birthday wishes to a dedicated man of God
and community servant, Reverend Gozie E. Penson, who is celebrating his
100th birthday at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the Holiday Inn
located at 197 East Broad Street in Athens, Georgia.
Reverend Gozie E. Penson was born on May 31, 1918 in Fayette County,
Georgia. He is a product of the Peach County School System and a member

extend my personal congratulations and best wishes to Mr. Richard S.
Monson. Richard has been the driving force behind Southwest Georgia
Farm Credit in Bainbridge, Georgia for 18 years and currently serves as
the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He will be retiring on
July 31, 2018.
A native of Maryland, Richard received a Bachelor's of Science degree
Mr. BISHOP of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor a beloved
educator and outstanding citizen, Mr. Paschal Ward. Mr. Ward will be
retiring from his post as the Director of Bands at Bainbridge High
School. He will be honored by the administration, faculty, students,
and supporters at a celebratory reception on Saturday, May 5, 2018 in
Bainbridge, Georgia.
The Prattville, Alabama native earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a
Mr. BISHOP of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, it is with a heavy heart and
solemn remembrance that I rise today to pay tribute to an outstanding
businesswoman, dedicated public servant, mentor to many, trailblazer,
and one of Georgia's most prolific women's rights advocates, Dr. Rita
Jackson Samuels. Sadly, Dr. Samuels passed away on Tuesday, March 27,
2018, at the age of 72. Her funeral service was held on Saturday, April
7, 2018, at noon at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mr. BISHOP of Georgia. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor a dedicated
husband, loving father, community activist and an outstanding Man of
God, Pastor Ronald G. Toney, Sr., who is celebrating his 25th
anniversary as the distinguished pastor of Lizzie Chapel Baptist Church
in Macon, Georgia. An anniversary worship service was held on Sunday,
April 8, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the church located at 1180 Bartlett Street
