Albany and Dougherty County have had more than their fair share of challenges in recent years (straight-line wind events, a tornado, a hurricane and being Ground Zero for the COVID-19 pandemic in Georgia). However, residents and businesses in this Southwest Georgia county are resilient. Both men spoke with welding students on higher education and the importance of techincal jobs.

Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), co-chair of the Congressional Job Corps Caucus, welcomed U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Marty Walsh to Albany, Georgia.

The pair toured the Turner Job Corps Center and discussed the value of the Job Corps program in strengthening America's economy and preparing participants for successful careers.

ALBANY, Ga. – U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh joined Congressman Sanford Bishop and Turner Job Corps leaders to tour the facility, answer questions students had and hear their concerns.
During Secretary Walsh's tour, the discussion was focused around the value of training for the workforce which helps in strengthening the economy.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) is pleased to announce the selection of three district institutions to receive grant funding through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) totaling $3,048,137. These funds have been allocated to the South Georgia Technical College ($691,171), Albany Technical College ($1,146,963), and Columbus Technical College ($1,210,003) and will go toward specialized training and education, supporting enrollment efforts, and student financial aid.

Federal money is coming to Columbus Technical College.
Congressman Sanford Bishop announcing today that three institutions will receive grant funding through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund, including CTC.
The school will receive just over $1.2 million towards specialized training and education, supporting enrollment efforts and student financial aid.
The relief fund is authorized by the American Rescue Plan Act that was signed in March of last year.
