WASHINGTON, DC – Last Thursday, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) and Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05), the bipartisan co-chairs of the Congressional Military Family Caucus, hosted a summit to address the current challenges faced by America's military families. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the event was hosted virtually and shared via livestream on the caucus Facebook Page.

The Congressional Military Family Caucus recognizes that when a service member joins the military, it is not a job - it is a family commitment to our country. Each year, the caucus hosts an annual summit to address the challenges faced by America's military families. This year's event was hosted on Thursday, October 14 from 9:00 AM ET to 5:00 PM ET.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) voted to repeal the Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) Against Iraq Resolution of 2002. The 2002 AUMF provided broad leeway for the President to conduct war following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), released the following statement regarding the recent ransomware attack that shut down the Colonial Pipeline:

"I am deeply disturbed by the ransomware attack that shut down the Colonial Pipeline, an important source of gasoline. As a former member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, I have long been a supporter of increased investment in our cybersecurity infrastructure. As a nation, we have underinvested in cybersecurity which has left us vulnerable to foreign hackers.

"Voting to impeach the President on the eve of a new Administration is unprecedented. But, the actions of President Trump, leading up to and on January 6th to overturn the results of the Presidential election and block the peaceful, constitutionally mandated transition of power is a clear and present danger to the people of the United States.

COLUMBUS, GA – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) released the following statement after the death of U.S. Capitol Police Officer Howard Liebengood:

"It pains me to learn we have lost another Capitol Police Officer, Howard Liebengood, after the insurrection of the Capitol last Wednesday. We are grateful for his service and protection of the Capitol grounds for many years. I send my deepest condolences to his loved ones as they grieve this unimaginable loss."

"The attack on the Capitol this Wednesday was domestic terrorism incited by our President and carried out by his supporters. Their actions led to the deaths of five people, including a Capitol Police officer. We are deeply fortunate that more people did not die. January 6, 2021 will be remembered as one of the darkest days in our nation's history and as such, we must act decisively in defense of the People and institutions of our government.

COLUMBUS, GA – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) released the following statement after the death of U.S Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick:

"I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Officer Brian Sicknick. Officer Sicknick died after defending our Capitol and the people in it from the violent assault on January 6. We are grateful for his service and sacrifice.

"The people responsible for his death must be brought to justice swiftly. I send my heartfelt condolences to his family as they mourn this tremendous loss."
