WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA02) co-led the introduction of H.R. 14, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which would protect the right to vote and safeguard American democracy by restoring and modernizing the full protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA). It is named in honor of the late John Lewis, an iconic leader of the Civil Rights Movement and longtime leader in Congress representing Georgians.

ATLANTA, GA – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) joined President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Democratic members of the Georgia Congressional Delegation in Atlanta to urge swift action on voting rights legislation currently pending before the United States Senate. Both the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act are awaiting a vote by the United States Senate.
