CONGRESSMAN BISHOP STATEMENT REGARDING NSA DATA GATHERING

June 12, 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) released a statement regarding the recent controversy surrounding data gathering by the National Security Agency.

“There are bad actors in the world and I believe the American people want our government to have the necessary tools, with appropriate oversight, to protect our families and communities from those who would do us harm. While we value the right to privacy, it must be balanced against the need to protect us from violent attacks on our people and our infrastructure,” said Congressman Bishop. “Where our nation draws the line between national security and personal privacy is a very important discussion that we, individually and collectively, should continue in order to protect the checks and balances provided to the three branches of government by our Constitution.”
