Mr. Bishop (GA) – Mr. Speaker, I rise today to pay tribute to Mr. Dan Bollinger, Sr. as he retires after over thirty years of illustrious service as an executive of regional development organizations in Georgia. A celebration will be held in his honor on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the Camilla Depot in Camilla, Georgia at 5:30 p.m.
Mr. Bishop (GA) – Mr. Speaker, it is my great honor to extend a heartfelt congratulations to the volunteers, employees and representatives of United Way as they celebrate 125 years of motivating millions of people to advance the common good.

Mr. Bishop (GA) – Mr. Speaker, it is my pleasure and honor to extend my personal and heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Michael L. Fowler, Sr. on being named Mortician of the Year for the 4th District of the Georgia Funeral Service Practitioners Association, Inc. A celebration will be held in his honor on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.
Mr. Bishop (GA) – Mr. Speaker, I rise today to pay tribute to a beloved educator, inspiring role model and gracious woman of faith, Mrs. Cecilia Arleen McIntyre Harbison. Sadly, Mrs. Harbison passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. On Wednesday, March 28, 2012, Mrs.
Mr. Bishop (GA) – Mr. Speaker, it is my pleasure and honor to extend my sincerest congratulations to Mrs. Helen Myers Long Cordell, a beloved citizen of Albany, Georgia, who will be celebrating her 100th birthday on Sunday, March 18, 2012.
Mr. Bishop (GA) – Mr. Speaker and my colleagues, there are many times when we come to this floor and engage in heated debate, and we have heard some heated debate today. This so-called Cut, Cap, and Balance bill does just that.
Mr. BISHOP (GA). I thank the gentleman for yielding. While the Military Construction/VA portion of this bill is not cut as much as some other parts of the continuing resolution, the cumulative effect of this CR is really to hurt our veterans. The bill provides $74.2 billion, which is $2.4 billion below the FY 2010; $1.8 billion below the President's request.
Mr. BISHOP (GA). Mr. Speaker, I rise today to oppose Rep. SCOTT GARRETT’s amendment to the FY2011 Continuing Resolution. His proposal to erase funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services will effectively
eliminate all specific federal funding for libraries. Doing so would cut off access to information for millions of Americans.
MR. BISHOP (GA). Mr. Speaker, my wife Vivian and I were shocked and saddened to learn of the awful events in Tucson, Arizona last Saturday. First and foremost, our prayers are with Gabby Giffords, her family, her staff, and the other victims of this senseless tragedy.
