A young Cairo woman is on her way to the U.S. Naval Academy. Alexis Gray earner an appointment to the prestigious military college and has already reported to Annapolis, Maryland to begin her Plebe Summer.

The 2021 graduate of Cairo High School was inducted into the Naval Academy Class of 2026 on Thursday, June 30, to begin her six weeks of basic midshipman training.

The bill strengthens public health infrastructure by investing in cutting-edge biomedical research to prevent disease and improve quality of life for all Americans. It supports child care, Head Start, and preschool development grants.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) highlighted several broadband infrastructure improvement projects across Middle and Southwest Georgia funded through the American Rescue Plan Act and with local matching funds. The projects were announced by Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp, state leaders, and the state's Broadband Infrastructure Committee. In Middle and Southwest Georgia projects to expand broadband internet access to over 18,000 sites were awarded over $54.6 million.

It is a comprehensive, strategic bill that will power the success of America's workers, businesses and economy at home and position America to compete – and win – on the world stage. The bill was adopted by the House of Representatives by a vote of 222-210 and now heads to the U.S.

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Georgia Congressman Sanford Bishop is making strides to make it easier for local military families to qualify for school meal programs.

Representative Bishop joined other lawmakers to introduce the Military Dependents School Meal Eligibility Act.
