PLAINS, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) issued the following statement regarding the life and legacy of former President, and beloved resident of Southwest Georgia, Jimmy Carter, who passed from labor to reward on December 29:
PLAINS, Ga. – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 9600, bipartisan legislation to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 119 Main Street in Plains, Georgia, as the "Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Post Office". Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), Dean of the Georgia Congressional Delegation, was the leading sponsor of H.R. 9600. The legislation now heads to the U.S. Senate for consideration.

The funds will bolster biomedical research as well as help engage and support more people to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics professions.
BLUFFTON, Ga. – Two businesses in Middle and Southwest Georgia are being awarded a total of $1.89 million by the Biden-Harris Administration through two U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) programs, the Meat and Poultry Processing Expansion Program and the Local Meat Capacity Grant Program. The funding for these awards was made possible by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, which Congressman Bishop supported in Congress.
MACON, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr., (GA-02) is pleased to announce that Mercer University has been awarded $176,238 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Exploratory Award Program is administered by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The grant will support cancer and autoimmune disease-related research at Mercer University.
