BISHOP CELEBRATES HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

September 17, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) released the following statement today in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 to October 15:

“Every year, we join together during National Hispanic Heritage Month to celebrate the many positive contributions that one of our nation’s fastest-growing populations and largest ethnic communities has made to our great nation.

“Since the earliest days of the founding of America to the current day, Latinos have played a vital role in molding the American landscape. From the approximately 1 million Latino veterans who have fought for our freedoms, to the labor leaders and civil rights activists who have struggled for economic equality, the Latino community is truly woven into the fabric of our American tapestry.

“While these achievements are great, there is still more work that needs to be done to address issues that affect the Latino community as it continues to become even more intricately woven into the American fabric.

“It is indeed a pleasure to join all Americans in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Our nation’s vibrant ethnic diversity is a large building block on the foundation upon which America has built its success as a nation of strong values and democratic principles. Thank you to the Latino community for the rich and positive contributions you all have made to the evolving mosaic of our nation.”
