CONGRESSMAN BISHOP SUPPORTS MEASURE TO KEEP GOVERNMENT OPEN FOR THE PEOPLE, URGES PASSAGE OF FULL-YEAR FUNDING BILL
February 9, 2022
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday evening, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) supported the adoption of a short-term, continuing resolution to keep the federal government open and serving the American people through early March. The measure was necessary as Congressional Democrats continue to work towards a final, full-year funding bill with their Republican colleagues. The funding bill was adopted by a bipartisan vote of 272-162 and now heads to the U.S. Senate for approval.
"Ensuring that the government is funded and serving the people is a key Constitutional responsibility of Congress. It should be doing this in a timely manner. However, Republicans and Democrats are still negotiating a full-year bill," said Congressman Bishop. "Yesterday's vote prevented a devastating government shutdown that would hurt American families and jeopardize national security. A full-year funding bill makes sure that our federal and local governments can provide uninterrupted services to our citizens as well as plan their budgets for the year ahead."
