CONGRESSMAN BISHOP STATEMENT ON ELECTION OF LORRAINE MILLER AS INTERIM PRESIDENT, CEO OF NAACP

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) released a statement regarding the election of Lorraine C. Miller as the interim President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP):

“A dear friend of long standing, Lorraine has always demonstrated a keen intellect and professionalism,” said Congressman Bishop. “More importantly for these times, she is a consensus builder and a problem solver and is the perfect leader to take on the many challenges ahead. The NAACP has chosen wisely to select Lorraine Miller as its interim President and CEO.”

Lorraine Miller is the first African-American to serve as an officer of the U.S. House of Representatives. Miller has had nearly two decades of experience working for the House, and also served in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs during the Clinton Administration. In 2004, Miller was elected president of the Washington, D.C. Branch NAACP and became part of the NAACP National Board of Directors in February of 2008.
