CONGRESSMAN BISHOP’S STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF U.S. SENATOR DIANNE FEINSTEIN
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) issued this statement following the passing of U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein of California:
“Senator Dianne Feinstein leaves a legacy of lifelong public service. She led through adversity, was a record-breaking trailblazer, and inspired generations of leaders who have followed. She was the first woman president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and that city’s first woman mayor. She was the first woman U.S. Senator to represent California and, in the Senate, the first woman to take the helm of the Senate’s Rules Committee, and the first to lead the Senate Intelligence Committee.
“Senator Feinstein was at the vanguard of issues and legislation that touched on our national security and public safety. She earned the respect and admiration of her peers – both allies and adversaries – during her tenure on Capitol Hill. My wife, Vivian, and I would like to express our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with them in this time of mourning.”
