CONGRESSMAN BISHOP PRESENTS $1 MILLION CHECK TO GOLDEN TRIANGLE RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL FOR WORKFORCE TRAINING

February 13, 2023
DAWSON, GA – On Friday, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) presented a ceremonial check to the Golden Triangle Resource Conservation and Development Council (RCDC) representing $1,000,000 in federal funding that the Congressman secured as part of the Fiscal Year 2023 funding bill. The funds will help the Golden Triangle RCDC purchase high-tech simulating equipment for training motor grader operators – heavy equipment needed for major road paving and surface leveling projects.
"At the end of 2021, Congress passed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act which is already making much needed and historic levels of investments in Georgia as well as local roads, railways, bridges, and airports. Our state needs motor grader and other heavy equipment operators to make these improvements," said Congressman Bishop. "I was pleased to be able to secure these funds as part of the Fiscal Year 2023 federal funding bill I helped craft and pass at the end of last year. Skilled motor grader operators are crucial to making our roads and runways safe and long-lasting. With these funds we can train more Georgians for good paying jobs that will help our state continue to grow and thrive."
"This project will have positive economic and environmental benefits for Southwest Georgia. In Southwest Georgia alone, there are over 4,000 miles of unpaved roads, many of which have caused major difficulties for farmers, timber producers and other agricultural and livestock operations trying to get their products to market. The project will foster local industry partnerships to train heavy equipment operators to repair the roads, keeping them open and safe for businesses and citizens to travel," said Rhonda Gordon Executive Director of the Golden Triangle Resource Conservation and Development Council.
Congressman Bishop is a senior member of the U.S. House of Representatives and leader on the House Appropriations Committee, which oversees federal discretionary spending. In addition to directing overall funding levels for federal departments, agencies, and programs – many of which operate or fund projects at the state and local level in Georgia and across the country – the Congressman was able to secure over $25 million in direct funding for several important projects in Middle and Southwest Georgia.
In the past two weeks, Congressman Bishop has presented funds to the cities of Colquitt (wastewater infrastructure), Donalsonville (broadband internet), and Bainbridge (industrial park development) as well as the Southwest Georgia Regional Commission in Camilla (first responder emergency communications equipment for 12 rural counties) and the Boys and Girls Club of Albany, Inc. (for facilities improvements in Albany, Plains, and Montezuma).
