CONGRESSMAN BISHOP PRAISES PASSAGE OF RAISE THE WAGE ACT

July 18, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), Chairman of the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies, released the following statement on the passage of H.R. 582, the Raise the Wage Act by a vote of 231-199:

"I have long supported American workers and was proud to support the Raise the Wage Act, a bill that will gradually increase the federal minimum wage to $15 over six years. For 10 years, the federal minimum wage has not been increased to keep up with inflation—which means Americans are working just as hard but are earning less than their parents. Not only will this bill give 43% of workers in our district a much-needed raise, an increased minimum wage will stimulate the local economy. The proposed increase is modest and gradual, so businesses will have plenty of time to adjust. Americans work hard and should be able to support themselves and their families."
