CONGRESSMAN BISHOP APPOINTED TO U.S. MILITARY ACADEMY BOARD AT WEST POINT
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (D-GA-02), a senior member of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee was officially appointed to the Board of Visitors for the United States Military Academy at West Point.
“It is an honor to be selected to serve on the West Point Board of Visitors. I will do my utmost – working with my colleagues on the board – to uphold and support this institution’s morale, discipline, and academic excellence, as well as assure sound curriculum, instruction, equipment, and the fiscal well-being of this vital institution. West Point has produced generations of the highest quality of U.S. Army military leaders in the world for over two centuries, and we must do whatever is required to continue that great legacy.” said Congressman Bishop.
Congressman Bishop will serve as part of a bipartisan and bicameral group of Members of Congress and presidential appointees including Board Chair Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR-03), Rep. Patrick Ryan (D-NY-18), Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH-08), and Rep. Mark E. Green (R-TN-07) as well as Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS), HON Charles T. Hagel, LTG (Retired) Nadja Y. West, Vice Chair, LTC (Retired) Roderick Alvendia, Dr. Leslie T. Fenwick, Ms. Susan C. Irons, and Mr. Juan A. Sabater.
The U.S. Military Academy at West Point's mission is “to educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of Duty, Honor, Country and prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the Nation as an officer in the United States Army.”
