CONGRESSMAN BISHOP APPLAUDS CONFIRMATION OF CHAIRMAN OF THE JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF AND ARMY CHIEF OF STAFF

September 21, 2023

WASHINGTON – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), senior member of the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs as well as the Co-Chair of the Congressional Military Family Caucus, applauded the confirmation of U.S. Air Force General Charles Q. Brown, Jr. to serve as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as well as the confirmation of U.S. Army General Randy A. George as the next Army Chief of Staff.

“I am pleased that the U.S. Senate was able to confirm the nominations of Generals C.Q. Brown and Randy George to serve as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Army Chief of Staff, respectively. These men are eminently qualified for these roles and have earned the respect as well as admiration of their colleagues through decades of selfless service in defense of our nation,” said Congressman Bishop. “They also uphold the values and principles for which our country stands, making them ideal leaders and indispensable advisers. America’s national security as well as the well-being of our servicemembers and their families, depend on the timely confirmation of our military’s leadership. This process should never be held hostage to policy fights that are not germane to our national defense. I urge Senate Republicans and Democrats to come together to quickly confirm the hundreds of remaining military nominations.”

General C.Q. Brown, Jr. will replace U.S. Army General Mark A. Milley whose term concludes at the end of this month. General Randy George is currently serving as the Acting Army Chief of Staff after U.S. Army General James C. McConville concluded his term as the Army Chief of Staff on August 4, 2023.

Congressman Bishop has worked frequently with both Generals Brown and George to address challenges faced by the U.S. Armed Forces as well as its servicemembers and their families. He looks forward to continuing to work with them in their new roles to ensure the United States continues to have the strongest and most capable military in the world.
