CONGRESSMAN BISHOP ANNOUNCES USDA FUNDS TO HELP LESLIE, GA GET NEW PATROL CAR
LESLIE, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), the Democratic leader of the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, the Food & Drug Administration, and Related Agencies, is happy to announce that the City of Leslie, Georgia, in Sumter County, will receive $25,000 from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development. The funds will be used to purchase a new, fully equipped patrol vehicle for the City of Leslie Police Department.
“It is crucial that the federal government be a dependable partner to our local law enforcement so that they can protect and serve their communities. However, local police, fire, and other emergency services departments often face large, up-front costs to make needed investments to hire, train, and equip their personnel. Thanks to these USDA Rural Development funds, Leslie can purchase a fully equipped patrol car to help keep the city safe," said Congressman Bishop. “As the leading Democrat on the Congressional committee that provides funding to USDA Rural Development, I will continue to make sure that America’s rural communities have the resources they need to thrive.”
“These grant funds have a huge impact for the City of Leslie, allowing us to have a decent vehicle for our officers to use as they keep the city safe,” said Leslie Mayor Matthew Daniel. “As a small, rural community we would not otherwise be able to afford a new vehicle from our operating budget.”
