CONGRESSMAN BISHOP ANNOUNCES $34,150 IN FEDERAL FUNDS TO HELP LUMPKIN LAW ENFORCEMENT IMPROVE EQUIPMENT, ENSURE QUICK RESPONSE TO EMERGENCIES
LUMPKIN, Ga. – Today, Congressman Sanford Bishop, Jr. (GA02) announced that the City of Lumpkin will receive $34,150 through the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Rural Development Community Facilities Direct Loans and Grants Program. The funds will be used to purchase communications equipment for the seven patrol vehicles used by the Lumpkin City Law Enforcement Department. It will replace outdated equipment and will aid the department in quickly responding to emergencies.
“Our law enforcement must have up-to-date equipment to safely protect our communities. Oftentimes, these equipment upgrades can be costly, and which may be a challenge for local governments to meet on their own,” said Congressman Bishop. “I am glad to announce these USDA Rural Development funds that will help Lumpkin’s Law Enforcement Department ensure the safety of its officers and residents. I will continue to work hard in Congress, across the aisle wherever possible, to ensure that programs are adequately funded so that the federal government remains a dependable partner for our local communities.”
“The grant and loan will allow the police department to update all communication equipment and printers in the seven patrol vehicles” said Matt Holloway, Chief of the Lumpkin City Law Enforcement Department. “Once the equipment is updated, it will help with the safety of the citizens and officers. The officers will retrieve the information quicker, allowing faster response time.”
The USDA award to the City of Lumpkin includes a loan of $15,400 and a grant of $18,750.
As a senior member of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, Congressman Bishop fights to maintain robust funding for programs that support local law enforcement, firefighters, emergency services, and disaster relief. In the past year alone, he has helped provide more than $6 million in federal assistance to local departments for equipment and vehicles throughout Georgia’s Second Congressional District.
