CHAIRMAN BISHOP SUPPORTS CONTINUING RESOLUTION
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), Chairman of the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies, released a statement following the passage of H.R. 4378, a Continuing Resolution that extends government funding through November 21. The bill passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 301 to 123.
“The House has passed 10 appropriations bills, but unfortunately the Senate is far behind schedule for the September 30 deadline. This continuing resolution is vital to ensure Americans are not hurt by a costly government shutdown.
“The continuing resolution provides funding at the FY 2019 level for the Department of Defense and all other federal agencies that would otherwise run out of money at the end of the month. It includes provisions for the United States Department of Agriculture to continue making relief payments to farmers negatively impacted by trade disputes and continues funding for critical health programs.
“Americans should not have to pay the price when Congress cannot agree on funding, which is why I voted for this bill. While I support the continuing resolution, I urge the Senate to pass the House-passed appropriations bills forthwith and get them to the President to prevent another wasteful government shutdown.”
