BISHOP SUPPORTS THIRD CORONAVIRUS SUPPLEMENTAL
COLUMBUS, GA – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), Chairman of the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies, released the following statement regarding the passage of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) by a voice vote:
“The outbreak of COVID-19 has quickly changed our lives. Every aspect of our nation has been affected and this bill reflects it. We invested billions into our hospitals, research, workers, small businesses, and students who have been hit the hardest by the virus’ impact. We secured these funds for the nation while also increasing oversight requirements and preventing secret bailouts to hold the government accountable.
“As Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies, I have been particularly concerned with how the coronavirus crisis will affect our food supply and security for children and families, our farmers and our rural communities. I made certain these priorities were substantially supported throughout the development of the Senate’s bill. In the end, $48.9 billion will be allocated to our section which will support our nation’s food and medical supply during this crisis.
“We are facing an extreme public health emergency and we must support Americans through it.”
