BISHOP STATEMENT ON THE RECENT DEVASTATION CAUSED BY TORNADOES IN ALABAMA, FLORIDA, SOUTH CAROLINA, AND GEORGIA

March 5, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) released the following statement after tornadoes touched down in four states, resulting in the deaths of at least 23 people and causing a swath of destruction in its wake.

"My prayers are with those who lost their lives and who have been severely impacted from yesterday's tornadoes. I am grateful to the first responders who have been working tirelessly to find the missing, clearing debris, and are caring for the injured," said Bishop.

"As it stands, twenty-three people have perished in Alabama although Georgia has not incurred any fatalities. Many have been injured. Talbot County in Georgia sustained the worst damage with 20 properties leveled by a tornado and damaged close to 40 others and Grady was especially hard-hit, too.

"My staff has been on the ground assessing the damage in Talbot, and Grady counties. We remain available to help as we continue to assess this terrible situation."
