BISHOP STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT’S PROPOSED FY18 BUDGET

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) issued the following statement concerning President Donald Trump's Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 Budget Blueprint:

"Although I support a robust national defense and addressing our readiness needs, we must not do so at the expense of our non-defense programs and agencies.

"The President's proposed FY18 Budget Blueprint would have a devastating impact across many sectors of our nation's economy. By slashing much needed investments in agriculture, student aid, job training, economic development, and housing assistance, the budget blueprint is a far cry from the President's promise to make America great. These cuts would directly harm Rural America and the farmers that cultivate our food. They would inhibit our nation's ability to innovate in an increasingly competitive world, and they would drastically curtail vital safety nets for our most vulnerable populations.

"This budget blueprint is a recipe for disaster for our country."
