WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) released the following statement lamenting the death of Air Force Major Walter D. Gray of Conyers, Georgia, who was killed in a suicide bomb attack in Afghanistan.

"I am deeply saddened to learn of the death of Major Walter Gray of the 93rd Air Ground Operations Wing out of Moody Air Force Base,” said Congressman Bishop. “While Major Gray's sacrifice reflects his strength of leadership, bravery in life, and legacy of service that will remain for years to come, our grateful nation's thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and squadron during this difficult time of loss."

Commissioned in October 1997, Maj. Gray was an Air Liaison Officer, one of the first in this career, and flight commander for the 13 ASOS, a unit of the 93rd Air Ground Operations Wing at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia. Maj. Gray was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. His unit worked to assimilate combat airpower into ground operations.
