Bishop Announces Federal Grant for NeighborWorks Columbus
Washington, DC – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-2) announced today that NeighborWorks Columbus has been awarded an $87,750 grant. These appropriated funds will assist NeighborWorks Columbus in rehabilitating affordable housing and creating financing or lending tools to assist communities adversely impacted by the foreclosure crisis and the economic recession.
“Recently, we have seen tough economic times, and the grant for NeighborWorks Columbus is great news for our community,” said Congressman Bishop. Everyone should have access to affordable housing, particularly those affected by the recession and the foreclosure crisis. I have worked very hard to ensure this grant for Columbus, and I look forward to seeing the improvements that will soon be made towards addressing the housing needs of Columbus.”
The funding for these “Rehabilitation of Affordable Housing” grants was provided through the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2010 (P.L. 111-117), which was signed into law on December 16, 2009.
The grantees are required to utilize this funding for the rehabilitation, or the financing of the rehabilitation, of affordable housing units.
$35 million in federal funding has been awarded to 117 community-based NeighborWorks organizations and two NeighborWorks-affiliated capital corporations to rehabilitate, or finance the rehabilitation of, affordable housing nationwide.
