Rep. Bishop honors Raymond Singletary on U.S. House floor

Congressman Sanford Bishop honored the life and contributions of the late Raymond C. Singletary Jr. Sept. 22, 2011, on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives by reading a citation of memory into the Congressional Record.

“This is the highest honor the congressman could bestow on Mr. Singletary,” stated Jamie Crozier, Bishop’s Deputy Director and Agricultural Advisor.

He presented a plaque of the Congressional Record proceeding to Mr. Singletary’s nephew, Steve Singletary and daughter in-law Henrietta Singletary the following day in the office of Singletary Farms.

“Mr. Speaker, I rise today to pay tribute to a great American farm advocate, successful businessman and dedicated community leader from the State of Georgia, Raymond C. Singletary, Jr.

“Mr. Singletary, a pillar in Georgia’s agricultural community, recently passed away at the age of 99...”

Congressman Bishop continued, reading into the Congressional Record Mr. Singletary’s contributions to agriculture, his community and Southwest Georgia and lifetime achievements.

“I would like to ask my colleagues to join me in paying homage to Raymond C. Singletary Jr. He lived a full life and the people of southwest Georgia will always be indebted to him for his unyielding support of our state’s peanut farmers and our agricultural community at-large. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and the Blakely, Ga., community at this time of great loss.”

Mr. Singletary passed away Sept. 15, 2011, at Pioneer Community Hospital of Early in Blakely. His funeral service was held at the First United Methodist Church Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011.
