Veterans have lauded U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop, D-Albany, for his support of a bill that would allow them to collect disability compensation along with retirement pay.
Current law forbids veterans receiving retirement benefits and disability.
Former 8th Congressional District Rep. Jim Marshall, D-Macon, introduced the bill two years ago, and Bishop has been a supporter.
Veterans groups have decried the practice of disallowing the benefits collection, saying it is an unfair tax.
