August 31, 2011

Congressman Sanford Bishop along with other Georgia congressional delegates including Congressman John Lewis, Senator Saxby Chambliss, Congressman Austin Scott and more wrote a letter urging U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to grant secretarial disaster designations for dozens of Georgia counties that have been hurt by the state's ongoing drought.

If granted the secretarial disaster designation the counties would be eligible to apply for emergency loans and other benefits provided under the existing Farm Bill.

Southwest Georgia counties on the list include Baker, Calhoun, Colquitt, Cook, Crisp, Dougherty, Lee, Mitchell, Terrell, Tift, Turner, and Worth counties. The entire list of counties included in the request is below.
